Our farm
Our family farm in Kerogoya practices agroforestry, where coffee trees grow alongside mango, avocado and macadamia trees, sugarcane and other indigenous species.
This rich ecosystem is also home to bees and a great diversity of birds, which naturally help keep the fields clean by controlling harmful insects. Together, they sustain the natural balance essential for producing the unique coffee we offer.
Through this environmentally friendly approach, we are able to deliver beans of exceptional quality, expressing the richness of our terroir and heritage. Each bean carries the story of our family, passed down from generation to generation, and guarantees an authentic experience with every tasting.

Meet Mr Richard Wanjohi Gitonyi
A Story of Freedom and Resilience since 1960
Our land is located in Kirinyaga in the Mount Kenya region. The farm was founded by our grandfather Richard Githonyi Wanjohi, who is now 98 years old and still supervises his plantation to this day.
Richard is a former Mau Mau fighter who, after Kenyan independence, became both a pastor and a coffee farmer.
He planted his first coffee trees in 1960, at a time when Africans were not allowed to do so, coffee cultivation was then strictly reserved for European settlers.
Imprisoned time and again by the colonial government, he found his freedom in the resistance, vanishing into the deep forests of Mount Kenya. Among the Mau Mau freedom fighters, he became both healer and guardian, keeper of the Kikuyu tribe’s sacred oaths, binding spirit, land, and people in their struggle for liberation.
After independence, those close to the colonial administration benefited the most from the settlers’ departure, seizing control of the coffee trade — a hold they maintain to this day. Small farmers and former Mau Mau fighters had to settle for modest family plots and gradually purchase land in order to expand their plantations. Such was the case for Mr. Wanjohi.
Through resilience and faith, he and his wife nurtured and educated their children, sustained by the coffee that became both their livelihood and his legacy.

Today…
Our main objective today is to reveal the true expression of our terroir through single-plot coffees, showcasing their unique character and distinguishing them from the blended coffees that typically represent the region.
Each harvest bears the imprint of our soil, our microclimates, and our traditions, but also of the sacrifices of those who started the farm. It is the fruit of a relationship between people and earth, forged in hardship and passed down with patience, faith, and vision.
By preserving this individuality and refusing to dissolve it into anonymous blends, we honor both our heritage and our land. What we share with the world is not just coffee, but authenticity, a genuine, distinctive expression of our terroir, alive with the story of our family and the spirit of Mount Kenya.

DSS (direct sales system)
We sell our coffee directly from our farm through Kenya’s Direct Settlement System (DSS). This system guarantees that every transaction is transparent, secure, and immediate, free from middlemen. Payments are settled electronically under the supervision of national institutions: the Central Bank of Kenya, the Agriculture and Food Authority « Coffee Directorate » and regulated financial institutions such as the Co-operative Bank of Kenya. These safeguards ensure fairness for both farmer and buyer and preserve the authenticity of our work.
